The number of breeding pigs being farmed in this country has halved in the last ten years. Many farmers put this down to the costs of having some of the most stringent pig welfare legislation in Europe. The use of stalls have been banned in this country for the last ten years - but not in the rest of the European Union where over half the pork we eat comes from.
