Factory-farm chickens vetted for signs of cruelty - 26/1/09

Factory-farmed chickens are to be checked for signs of cruelty and neglect under new legislative measures to improve chicken production. The move is to be unveiled today by Hilary Benn, Rural Affairs Secretary, in a consultation paper and marks the first time that welfare regulations on rearing these birds are to be enshrined in legislation.
